Chinese Teen Tutoring

Chinese Teen TutoringThere are many Chinese learning programs for children that are based on the traditional Chinese concept of studying. As part of these programs, students will be exposed to the culture, history and traditions of China. In order to make the study fun and exciting, the parents should also be involved. The parent-teacher discussion about the study program in Chinese is quite important. At the start of each year, a proper planning should be done to see what benefits the parents would get out of it. You should plan a vacation together with your son or daughter as well as a night on the town. After the trip to school, the parents can play games, go shopping, and spend time in new things. This is one way of showing your appreciation to the child. Sometimes, the trip can also be a day long. Since most of the trips are personal, it is advisable to include the father. As a good example of this, imagine the father that went with his wife and child when they were on a business t rip to China. They went shopping, for a dinner and enjoyed a nice meal. At the end of the day, there was a visit to some restaurants. During this vacation, the father and son had a good bonding experience together. These trips to China are also filled with fun sports. They have beach volleyball, basketball, and swimming. These trips are very fun because they are not in uniform. For example, swimming in the water and using the swimming pool is the same for children and adults. While studying in a Chinese program can be enjoyable, it is not easy. It may be even more difficult for young students that have to spend the entire day studying. The Chinese government has made it compulsory to learn the language during their age 10 or higher. This is to avoid those who have not yet learned to write in Chinese language to try to learn it at an early age.The best thing about learning Chinese through Chinese tutoring is that the student gets to learn at his or her own pace. It is a good opportunit y for the parents to improve their communication skills with their children. The child learns to understand the culture and traditions as well as the language. A Chinese teen tutoring will also give a student a sense of self-confidence and let him or her feel more in control.

Case Study How Modern Knowledge achieved 86% of their annual hiring needs using Teach Away

Case Study How Modern Knowledge achieved 86% of their annual hiring needs using Teach Away Background Modern Knowledge Schools in Bahrain offers American Diploma and International Baccalaureate program options for Bahraini nationals and expat children alike. While the school adheres to an American curriculum, they're also committed to balancing local culture with a global mindset. Core cultural subjects are taught in Arabic, but all other subjects are taught in English and 90% of the school’s staff is international. With 2,700 Bahraini and international students, and a staff of more than 160 teachers, the job of keeping the school running is no small feat. When new Executive Director Daniel Hollinger arrived last year, he found himself needing to hire 35 new English-speaking teachers from around the globe. The Challenge Since Modern Knowledge Schools is committed to hiring experienced and certified teachers from the US and Canada to deliver their US curriculum, increasing competition for international educators has made this difficult. The school’s only visa requirement is for international teachers to hold a bachelor’s degree in education. But they’ve found that their comparatively low compensation package significantly narrows the pool of candidates who are interested in working for them, since experienced teachers are able to make more elsewhere. So, they got creative by widening their net to include more inexperienced teachers and those from English-speaking countries outside the US and Canada. But for Daniel and his staff, providing the best education for their students still meant spending a huge amount of time and energy to find the best teachers possible. Searching for the right candidates, Daniel tried attending recruitment fairs, but found that Modern Knowledge Schools struggled to compete for teachers’ attention against schools offering more money. On top of this, he had to pay an attendance fee for the fairs, and extra fees for any hires he did make there. He also tried working with a variety of other online recruitment platforms and agencies, but found they were complicated to use and didn’t yield enough applicants to make them worthwhile. Our Solution Teach Away’s annual subscription provided the cost-effective, large-scale access to the candidates Daniel was looking for. Following a recommendation from the school’s previous hiring manager, Daniel used the annual subscription to post the school's vacancies on Teach Away's job board. Given the high volume of positions they were recruiting for, Daniel opted for an annual subscription which enabled him to post as many jobs as he wanted and hire as many teachers as he needed throughout the year for one set fee; a far more cost-effective solution than purchasing job postings individually. He found that posting ads on Teach Away’s job boards gave him access to a large and diverse candidate pool of qualified teachers from all over the world, who (most importantly) were interested in working for Modern Knowledge Schools. And our user-friendly platform helped him implement an efficient hiring process: “Teach Away’s site is so easy to use. First, I quickly screen candidates for the required qualifications, then I’m able to get a good initial glimpse of qualified candidates from their profiles. If they seem like a good fit, I can download their resume for more information and go from there,” he told us. With access to so many candidates on the Teach Away platform, Daniel found he no longer had to pay for other recruitment solutions, such as going to job fairs. The Impact Daniel was able to fill 86% of his teaching positions for the year through Teach Away, with exactly the kind of teachers he was looking for. Daniel says, “working with Teach Away has been really beneficial. I’ve relied almost exclusively on Teach Away to help me fill the positions that I need to fill because I’m able to find qualified candidates from many different countries in the world on their platform.” On top of this, Teach Away’s annual subscription saved Modern Knowledge Schools over 40%, compared with what they would have spent on individual job postings. And that’s before they factored money saved from being able to give up other, less successful, recruitment methods. Daniel is already thinking about how he can leverage Teach Away to further streamline his hiring process and recruit new teachers for the projected 15â€"20 roles they’re going to need to fill in the coming year. Hire like Modern Knowledge Schools We know that hiring teachers is hard, and as the world’s most trusted resource for international educators, we aim to make it easier. Hangover Cures, Found On Your Plate

Hangover Cures, Found On Your Plate Photo by DowntownRickyBrown via Flickr The first thing you should do upon waking with a hangover is something youve heard many times before: drink water. According to Kate Hilbern in an article for The Independent, one 250ml glass of wine (or other alcohol) causes the body to expel 800 to 1,000ml of water. Thats four times as much liquid lost as gained, which explains the heavy traffic to the loos in bars and restaurants, Hilbern said. Colin Wilson, research scientist at Water Wellpoint, also explains that hangover headaches are essentially brought on by dehydration, which causes the body to try to steal water from the brain. This makes the brain decrease in size and pull on the membranes that connect the brain to the skull, Wilson said. Many experts state that having a glass of water between each drink you order is a way to balance the diuretic effect caused by the alcohol, and to also be sure you are well hydrated before you even consume your first alcoholic beverage. The morning following a night of drinking will probably still leave you with a dry mouth and slight dehydration, however, so be sure to drink about eight ounces every hour. Also, nix the coffee (oh, the blasphemy!) since its also a diuretic and will leave you even more dehydrated than before, worsening symptoms. Break the Fast, Nix the Toxins   Potassium Rich Foods Photo by The American Yoga Academy via Flickr Since your body has been depleted of water, it has also been depleted of several essential minerals and electrolytes specifically potassium. Foods such as bananas and kiwis are good choices to replace these and refuel your energy stores. However, dont be tempted to reach for a sports drink; instead, grab a coconut water, which according to the UNs Food and Agriculture Organization, contains  the same five electrolytes found in human blood (Gatorade has only two). Eggs Photo by beauty_goodness_truth via Flickr Alcohol showcases its toxic effects as the liver begins to break it down, creating a by-product of alcohol metabolism called  acetaldehyde, which is considered even more toxic than alcohol itself. Luckily, our bodies produce  glutathione, an enzyme that effectively gets rid of the toxin. That is however, until our liver is overloaded with too much alcohol, leaving the unchecked acetaldehyde roaming about our stomachs, causing nausea and vomiting. Enter the life-giving egg: eggs contain a compound called cysteine, which breaks down acetaldehyde, and taurine, which aids in maintaining healthy liver function, according to Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD. Chicken Soup and Oats Photo by pretty, strange via Flickr Along with potassium, sodium is another essential nutrient lost during the dehydration effects of alcohol. By choosing a sodium-rich food, such as chicken soup, you can replenish the lost electrolyte and add in more of the toxin-fighting cysteine that can be found in the chicken. Oats are another option for soaking up toxins and getting a great dose of B-vitamins and magnesium, which lends sustained energy. They also raise your blood sugar levels, effectively neutralizing acids in the body. Prevention Going back to popular belief, the consumption of fatty foods does have its place in hangover lore, just not the one many think it does. According to Dan Dahl, a medical doctor at Stanford Health, its important to eat fatty foods before you start drinking, rather than after, so that your stomach has that extra lining. Eating fatty foods after the night is done won’t give you quite the same benefits, Dahl said. To further reiterate this idea, in folk tradition  Mediterranean cultures commonly take a spoonful of olive oil before a night of alcohol to line their stomachs, which is a healthier fatty food option opposed to indulging on fries and burgers. Whatever you do, resist the urge to splurge on unhealthy sweets or fatty foods during your hangover, as these can further irritate the stomach and heighten nausea. If you are vomiting during this time, be sure to keep drinking water and perhaps some decaffeinated herbal tea to calm your stomach. Remember, hydration is one of the most important steps you can take to re-balance your body. By this time, hopefully every sound doesnt have you wincing, your eyes are no longer squints and your stomach feels like it belongs to you again. Next time youre in for a cocktail night, be sure to triple fist: with your drink, your water, and your olive oil, of course.

5 Ways to Have a Well-Rounded Experience on Campus

5 Ways to Have a Well-Rounded Experience on Campus 5 things students should do to have a well-rounded experience on campus Although a few students figure out how to have an excellent work/life balance straight off the bat, most need some time to adjust to the various rigors of studying and living on a college campus. Because living on campus immerses students entirely into their college experience, it can sometimes be hard to achieve this balance and still maintain a good GPA. Although the first semester of freshman year will always be an adjustment, there are some ways students can keep a well-rounded experience while living on campus our private Orange County college tutors are here to help you make the most of your college years. 1.   Dont always take your homework home with you Nearly every student studies in the dorm because they need to work into the late hours of the night or just want a cozy place to complete an assignment. However, it’s beneficial for students to spend some time studying outside of their room. Whether they go to the library or the study room found on the first floor of most dorms, saving their room for sleep and relaxation will help maintain an overall balance. Also, alternate study locations on campus tend to have fewer distractions than a dorm room with a roommate. 2.   Look for new ways to make friends Unless a student is attending a school close to home with a lot of their high school friends they will need to think about ways to make new friends and have a healthy social balance on campus. Some great ways for students to form new friendships is to join a social club, form a study group, make friends with other students in the dorm, or look for motivated and fun classmates. If students are feeling especially isolated, there are lots of social clubs that celebrate a particular culture, gender, or interest. This is a great way for students to get to know other people who have something in common with them either in their background or their particular field of study. In fact, students can make excellent networking connections through on-campus social clubs that can help them later in their career. 3.   Make independent study a priority Although studying in a social environment can be more fun and sometimes more encouraging, students new to college also need to make independent study a top priority. Some assignments are just better done in the peace and quiet of the library study room with little to no distraction. Studying solo is one of the best ways students can maintain a high GPA and discern their strengths and weaknesses at this level of learning. It also allows students to develop academic skills and study methods that meet their specific learning styles (READ: Going Back to College A Mature Students Guide). 4.   Leave time for healthy eating and exercise College campuses are notorious for unhealthy food and, although students walk all around campus, they often sit in the same position for hours at a time. One of the best ways to combat these difficulties is to utilize the school’s fitness center and make sure theyre getting a balanced diet. Even if a student eats a lot of junk on their meal plan, they can eat healthy foods such as fresh fruits and veggies without needing to cook at all. 5.   Spend some time off campus once in a while Its also important for students to spend a little bit of time off campus every now and again. Although the majority of their socialization will be on campus, there are tons of things going on out there past the edge of the school parking lot. Students should immerse themselves in the town or city theyre studying in, get to know its local culture, and see what type of job opportunities will be available to them upon graduation. Once done with college, students won’t be grouped in with people exactly their age ever again. Its good for college students to interact in some way with individuals in the general public, so they are prepared to join a diverse workplace and socialize with different types of people. 5 ways to prepare for the SAT this winter - TutorNerds

5 ways to prepare for the SAT this winter - TutorNerds Tips Form an Irvine SAT Tutor: 5 ways to prepare for the SAT this winter Although spring is the most popular time to take the SAT, many students are choosing to take it in the winter these days so they can focus on their advanced placement exams in May. Also, students who take the SAT during the winter will have the option to take it again at the end of the school year if they want to improve their score. Its hard enough to get used to being back in the classroom after winter break so when students add in test prep they might feel a little bit overwhelmed. One of the best ways students can prepare for their SAT is to find a good balance in their schedule and work on time management so they can have enough energy to get through the end of the school year as well as do well on college entrance exams (our experienced Irvine SAT tutors are here to help you score high). 1.   Prep in advance One of the easiest ways students can maintain a healthy work-life balance while studying for the SAT is to prepare well in advance of the big day. Students who leave things till the last minute often become overwhelmed with the amount of work they have to do and this type of frustration can certainly stress a student out and potentially lower their score. When students create a study timeline they have an opportunity to meet goals one at a time as well as have extra time to prepare in case something else comes up. 2.   Create a personalized study plan One size does not fit all when it comes to test prep. In fact, almost every single student will have different needs. Although most students have are strong in either math or English, their skill sets often require that they need to work on different subcategories of these core subjects. The best way for students to start their personalized study plan is to take a full-length practice exam, or at least a shortened version thereof so they can determine which skills they have already developed and which ones they need to work on (READ: 5 Awesome SAT Apps). 3.   Leave enough time for non-academic activities By this point in the year students are already stressed out so, if they add test prep to their weekly routine, they may run out of steam before June. Instead, students are encouraged to plan some extracurricular activities into their schedule, so they dont feel overwhelmed by all the work they have to do. Students with a rested mind and a positive attitude towards education, in general, tend to be able to focus more and score higher on important exams. 4.   Meet up with friends to study Another great way for students to prepare for their winter SAT is to meet up with friends after school and study. A social setting provides a positive learning environment and classmates encourage each other to persevere through difficult topics while at the same time having a little bit of fun. Students can either meet up with other people preparing for the SAT at a coffee shop near school, or they can have a fully organized study group with a tutor to lead the session. 5.   Work with a tutor to assess strengths and weaknesses Last, but certainly, not least students are encouraged to work with a tutor in a one-on-one environment to assess their personal strengths and weaknesses. Because each student has a different learning style, they can benefit greatly from working with someone who can advocate for them and help them figure out how best to manage their time up until the big day. Test prep tutors work with tons of students year after year and recognize patterns that can either help or hurt a student’s chances of reaching their test prep goals. How to Choose the Right Reach Schools

How to Choose the Right Reach Schools This post is the first part of our three-part series on how to choose the right reach, match, and safety schools. Over the course of the next two months, visit the Varsity Admissions Blog for advice on how to tackle this part of the admissions process. If youre applying to college, youre probably familiar with the words safety, match, and reach. They represent the three types of institution that a student can apply to: Safetyschools you know youll get into Targetschools you think youll get into Reachschools youre not sure youll get into. You can identify your safety, match, and reach schools by comparing your credentialssuch as GPA and standardized test scoresto that of the average admitted student. These statistics are usually available on a colleges website. It can be tempting to only apply to safety and match schools in order to forego the disappointment of being denied admission to your dream, or reach, schools. Fear of rejection, however, is no reason not to apply to these colleges and universities. When choosing the right reach schools, use your skill set to your advantage and identify what a reach school actually means to you. Choose the right reach schools by thinking bigwithin reason Create a list of dream schools, and then consider the academic profile of the average admitted student. If you are within a reasonable range of this profilefor example, within 0.25 or 0.5 grade pointsyou should weigh applying. Most colleges and universities place significance on extracurricular activities and application essays, in addition to academics. So, even if your academic game isnt extremely strong, theres a chance your other assets could boost your application. However, if a reach schools academic standards are much higher than you can achieve by the time you graduate, you might want to rethink your application. Not only is it unlikely youll get in, but if you do get in, you may struggle with the coursework. Its key to apply to schools that are a good academic match so that you can get the most out of your education. [RELATED: 5 Quick Tips for Writing a College Application Essay] Choose the right reach schools by using all of your skills to your advantage Youll have a better chance of getting into a reach school, regardless of your academic profile, if you can prove youll be an asset to the college or university in a unique way. For example, if youve won awards in art or music in high school, apply to a school with a well respected arts or music program that offers scholarships in those areas.
